Rigwire Help

RIGWIRE INSTRUMENT

This page provides remote control and monitoring of a Rigwire gas detector unit for the selected instrument serial number. Use the console to view instrument responses, send manual commands, read and write registers, control solenoids, run calibrations (when unlocked), and open a live realtime data window.

PAGE LAYOUT

Left column - Console

  • Yellow-on-black scrollback window showing instrument terminal output.
  • Green command line below the scrollback for typing manual commands.
  • INSTRUMENT HELP button to the right of the command line.

Right column - Controls

  • Register read/write, depth set, version, shutdown, solenoid, and serial selection buttons.
  • UNLOCK SYSTEM FUNCTIONS checkbox and calibration/OEM controls (when unlocked).
  • Sensor status labels showing current Pilistor/TCD and detector set selection.

SERIAL NUMBER

Select the instrument serial number from the drop-down in the control panel.

All commands, terminal output, and sensor labels apply to this serial.

Changing the serial clears the console scrollback and reloads sensor status for the newly selected unit.

INSTRUMENT HELP

Opens this help document in a new browser tab.

CONSOLE SCROLLBACK

The black scrollback area displays the instrument terminal buffer for the selected serial. It refreshes automatically about every two seconds while this page is open.

Line colors indicate message type:

Yellow (default) - general instrument text Light blue ($$) - secondary status lines Cyan ($$$) - tertiary status lines Green (~) - positive or OK-style messages Red (@) - error or alert-style messages Pink (^) - special highlighted lines Purple ($) - additional status category Yellow (*) - starred or emphasized lines

The buffer is trimmed to the most recent 128 KB of text. Scroll up to review earlier output.

COMMAND LINE (GREEN TEXT BOX)

Type a Rigwire command and press Enter to send it to the selected instrument.

The command is queued on the server and delivered to the unit. The line clears after a successful submit.

A serial number must be selected before commands are accepted. Commands typed here are sent as manual (MANUAL) commands, the same as if entered from a connected terminal session.

READREG / SETREG

READREG

Enter a register address (0 to 99999, up to 5 digits) and click READREG. Sends: [serial] READREG [address]

SETREG

Enter register address and floating-point value, then click SETREG. Sends: [serial] SETREG [address] [value]

WHAT ARE REGISTERS?

Opens RegisterDef.TXT in a new tab with register definitions and descriptions.

SET DEPTH

Enter a floating-point depth value and click SET DEPTH.

Sends: [serial] SETDEPTH [depth]

REALTIME DATA

Opens a live realtime data modal window for the selected serial. Shows current gas readings, WITS items, and error status while the modal is open.

VERSION / SHUTDOWN

VERSION?

Requests firmware/version information from the instrument. Sends: [serial] VER

SHUTDOWN RIGWIRE

Puts the unit into shutdown mode. Sends: [serial] SHUTDOWN ON

END SHUTDOWN

Ends shutdown mode. Sends: [serial] SHUTDOWN OFF

SOLENOID CONTROLS

CLOSE ALL SOLENOIDS - [serial] SOL OFF OPEN AIR SOLENOID - [serial] SOL AIR ON OPEN CG SOLENOID - [serial] SOL CG ON BLOWBACK SOLENOID - [serial] SOL REV ON OPEN CALGAS SOLENOID - [serial] SOL CAL ON

UNLOCK SYSTEM FUNCTIONS

Checking UNLOCK SYSTEM FUNCTIONS enables the red calibration and OEM buttons below. You must confirm a safety warning before unlock takes effect.

Unlock state is remembered for the current browser session (sessionStorage).

When locked, calibration buttons are disabled and the deck appears dimmed.

Use unlock only when performing authorized calibration or OEM maintenance.

Detector selection:

SELECT IR TCD DET - SETREG 23 0 SELECT PIL TCD DET - SETREG 23 1 SELECT ONLY TCD DET - SETREG 23 2

Pilistor selection:

SELECT PRIMARY PILISTOR - SETREG 24 0 SELECT BACKUP PILISTOR - SETREG 24 1

SENSOR STATUS LABELS

Two labels below the control deck show live sensor configuration read from instrument registers:

  • Operational Pilistor/TCD sensor set (Primary, Secondary/Backup, etc.)
  • Active detector set (IR/TCD, PIL/TCD, TCD Only, etc.)

The current sensor name is color-coded. Labels update on the same poll interval as the console buffer. When the serial changes, labels reset until new data arrives from the unit.

TIPS

- Confirm the correct serial is selected before sending SETREG or calibration commands.

  • Use READREG to verify register values before and after changes.
  • Keep UNLOCK SYSTEM FUNCTIONS off during normal drilling operations.
  • Watch the console scrollback for command acknowledgment and error messages.
  • Use REALTIME DATA for live readings without leaving the Instrument page.
