Troubleshooting the Bloodhound WITS RS-422 Connection

In this article, we will cover several troubleshooting steps with regard to the Pason
RS422connection.

PREREQUISITES:

1)  You need to be in the same location with the Bloodhound in order to check
     cabling, etc.

2)  You need to have either
     a)  a locally running Gas Chart, or
     b)  a remotely running RTDV with Administrative Login to the Bloodhound.

3)  For this article you need to be using the Pason WITS system.

4)  For this article, you also need to be using the Pason RS422 connector (the large
round connector with the blue wire) as opposed to the 9-pin Null Modem connector
(it looks kind of like the older style monitor connector).  See image in step two (2)
below for a reference to which port is the RS422 port.

HOW-TO:

1)  If you have one available, consider using a Null Modem Cable from the EDR to the Bloodhound
NOTE:  If you have the correct cable, it will ONLY fit into the connector immediately
     underneath the RS422 connector
).
This is the recommendedconnection in most WITS configurations as it is more electrically
     isolated, and generally less problematic.

2)  Continuing on with RS422 troubleshooting:  Ensure that you are using the RS422 connector.
This is roughly a one-inch round connector on the left side of the Bloodhound at the top of
     the case (nearest the face).

3)  The Bloodhound is designed to automatically sync with the RS422connection and
the ToolPush panel on the other end of the cable.  First check all the runs of the
cable, and ensure it is plugged in on both ends.

4)  Check to make sure that the pins on both ends of the male ends of the cable are in
good shape - not bent or missing.

5)  Try connecting the "ToolPush" panel end of the cable into another port and see if
     anyconnection is established.

6)  Open up iBall Instruments Gas Chart, and right-click to bring up the "Gas Chart Control
     Box".

7)  Click on "Setup" and then the "Bloodhound" Tab.  (NOTE:  This article assumes you are
"locally" connected to the Bloodhound via a USB Printer cable from the computer running
     Gas Chart to the Bloodhound
).

8)  In the large field that is labeled "Send Bloodhound Command", type in "LINK WITS" and
press ENTER.  See if anything comes back.  If it does, then theconnection is working but
there is no data assigned.  Contact either the Tool Pusher, or Pason to get this corrected.

9)  If still no results, contact Pason Technical Support at 877 255 3158 and/or Bloodhound
     Support at 405 570 4449.
